In ''The Asutra''* Gastel vies with the Alula musicians in a bit of a session. This, as with almost everything you write, is a marvelous piece of observation. Having played traditional music for years in Irish/Scottish sessions it exactly describes the kind of shenanigans that go on in a session when a guest musician has arrived and no-one knows if he is any good. The question I have is was it based on your experience with Jazz sessions (of which i know next to nothing) or drawn from experience or research on Irish traditional sessions?
