To my mind, the Alastor novels are Vance's best works within the science fiction genre. I particularly enjoy the quality of the world building and the anthropological insights.
It's sad that Vance didn't wrote the planned fourth entry in the series, "Alastor 458: Pharism". But I read somewhere that the VIE includes some preliminary notes by Vance for that novel. What can be gleaned from them? What was Pharism going to be about?
It would be nice it Subterranean's upcoming "Wild Thyme, Green Magic" included those notes. Info about the planned generational starship novel "Stark" would also be welcome. What an unusual setting for Vance!
