I find, on rereading, that in many Vance works, the action moves for a good chunk of a single novel off-world or off main-world onto a different locale, and that for whatever reason those secondary locales are unappealing. I'm thinking of Kahei on Durdane, particularily, and also Tanjecterly in the Green Pearl. some of the planets in the Cadwal series would also qualify, particularily those Glawen and Kirdy visit in the 1st book and those Glawen and Chilke visit in the 3rd. In these cases I find I want to read through the section off world as quickly as possible and get back to the main locus of action. not sure why. Anybody else have this reaction?
