I've been wracking my brain trying to recall a Vancian reference of anthropological import. I thought it appeared in WoO, newly published under the title Coup de Grace, but could not find it in that story. Essentially, it is a broad summation of cultural behavior based on the food preferences of evolving species. It goes something like: Those who develop intelligence from vegetarian species are relatively peaceful. Those who develop intelligence from carnivorous species tend to be violent in nature, and those who develop intelligence from omnivorous species tend to be unpredictable. Of course, Jack puts it more eloquently, which is why I am trying to track it down. This is one of those amazing tidbits that Jack just throws out there in passing while lesser writers would expound on for pages without adding anything further. Can anyone tell me what story this is from?
