That's one of the problems of our ever-increasing longevity. Prolonged life not only stresses the Social Security system but extends the years of misery that so many people have to endure. Longevity even creates this misery. My 93-year-old mother was vibrant until about 89, then went rapidly downhill with all kinds of pains and crippling disabilities. And these conditions aren't really curable and not even treatable except for high doses of numbing drugs. Her only hope is that her days are quickly running out. To reach 100 in her current state would be a horror.
