Steve, I'm with you on Aillas and Vaidro, which to me are eye-las and v-eye-dro. Then again, I don't know Jack's pronunciation of those, though I infer from your post that it was different.

Reith has always been reeth to me. True, German pronunciation would give "eye", but I think standard English pronunciation, at least in the US, is ee, though there are many exceptions, especially for proper names of clearly German origin, to wit: Seinfeld. "Reith" on the other hand, strikes me as Scottish or something.....to pronounce it r-eye-th would give it a specifically German flavor.

It would be hard to get rayth out of it, at least for me. I find I go back and forth on Lyonesse....
