Seeing the differences between the magazine versions and the books, I am becoming more and more of a A. Merritt epicure. There are certainly vital differences. Many of the word choices in the magazine versions are more subtle, varied, richer in texture and length. Of higher literary quality. Some of the word choices in the books are repetitive, simpler and rougher. I don't see why he would change the text like that. Maybe to pander to a conceived less intelligent readership's view of what's good entertainment?

I have also acquired the magazine texts of The Dwellers in the Mirrage (the book version has a happy ending, forced upon the the author by the publisher) and of The Conquest of the Moon Pool.

Can anyone here recommend Creep, Shadow! ? Some say it is his best, although not fantasy like the others, but more a supernatural horror thriller.
