From a graphic-design and typography standpoint, however, I feel the books are "amateurish" in the worst way. Everything about the design of the books feels like it was done by someone with a very little experience in book design and no willingness to consult a professional in the field. The layout of the pages, the typesetting, and the Amiante font just cause every working designer to whom I've shown the volumes to cringe--physically, those books are just ugly, and that's not a word I use lightly.

Ugly? I just don't understand how anyone could complain over these books. They are beautiful. And very Vancean. I wish I had the 'Readers' set.
