It took me several tries to get into it, but I finally broke through and read The Worm with some pleasure. Won't try again. But you know, I'm glad Eddison wrote it, if only to prove that it could be done. Such a vast construct is a triumph of the human spirit. Kind of like the Grand Canyon: you can see it as an amazing natural wonder, or as a disastrous case of catastrophic erosion. Either way, it's remarkable.
