That's less of a problem than one might think. I once had a volume with all of Ballard's short stories (sadly, I left it on the train), which usually would take at least four or five volumes. This volume, if I remember well, had about two thousand pages fine print on ultra-thin paper, almost like the translucent pastry of a delicate dim sum. Still, the text was easy to read, although the pages had to be handled with care.

Ambulo, ergo sum!
