Eh? What is wrong with the font of my VIE set? It looks fine to me....
You apparently missed all the fun. The VIE typeface was created just for the VIE, supposedly because it was somehow specific to Vance's style and zeitgeist. Many long posts on this board continued a vituperative discussion regarding this typeface. (Call me cynical, but I believe that much of the contention stemmed from the fact that the typeface was designed by the VIE editor in chief; if Joe Blow had designed it, I suspect that the dispute would have been more muted). I have to say I just couldn't get into the spirit of the conflict. I have read Vance with pleasure in the many typefaces adopted by his various publishers over the decades. True, German Gothic might have been a poor choice for Vance's collected works but, like you, I don't find Amianti any more objectionable than the common typefaces used by Vance's commercial publishers. As I progress into advanced middle age, I find font size and the darkness of the print more important than the design.
