Right, got it now !

I checked the etymology of gormless, and found in Webster's :

" alteration of English dialect gaumless, from gaum attention, understanding (from Middle English gome, from Old Norse gaum, gaumr) + -less"

so "gormfull" is quite correct too !

Checking further, it seems that the word comes from Lancashire, and was also spellt "gawmless".
