I noticed that there's little talk on the net about Vance's Alastor series; there isn't even a Wikipedia article for Marune, second book of the Alastor series.
Alastor, along with Durdane, seem to be Vance's least esteemed series. What do you think of Alastor? Is it one of Vance's greatest series, or one of his weaker ones? Which Alastor book do you like best?
I heard from a couple people that Wyst is the best of the series, while Trullion is the worst. But I'll have to read the series before I decide on what I feel is best.
I recently got a hardback Alastor omnibus in the mail and was wondering if I should start with Trullion, then Marune then Wyst (the order they were written), or would that be unecessary? Supposedly the books aren't related to another other than how they all take place in the same galaxy. If so, I might read them backwards. It would probably be better to start off with the best book (Wyst, supposedly) and move backwards.
